As I walk away from your empty handed promises
I leave us both standing in a field that has gone dry
In a field that has gone dry, where all the flowers are dead
Dead from a lack of rain
Like we are dead from a lack of love
A lack of love that we don't know how to give to each other

As I move on, I find myself in a forest with no trees
A forest with no trees to give shade
To give shade to the animals that are half dead
Half dead from a lack of love
A lack of love that they don't know how to give to each other

As you move on, you find yourself
in a rainforest with no rain
No rain that has caused all the flora and fauna to dry up
Dry up from a lack of rain's love
A lack of love that the rain refused to give
Refused to give because they became ungrateful for it's gifts

Then we find ourselves together
Together walking through a desert of lost dreams
A desert of lost dreams with nothing left to say
Nothing left to say to each other
    because our minds are empty
Our minds are empty of thoughts of what could have been
Because what could have been, could have been better
Could have been better together than the empty disillusioned
existence that we eeked out separately
That we eeked out separately because we didn't know
how to walk together on the path of love that
    lay out before us
