Dear Christmas Cactus
    aka Schlumbergera bridesii
Known to us as the beautiful flower of winter,

I wanted to tell you that...
I look at you with wonder and amazement
With wonder of how you make it through
Winter's freezing cold season and with
amazement of how you sustain your beauty
without breaking under this season's wintry
weather whose frosty coldness most take respite
    from

For you live a perennial life
Whose bodacious buds are induced in the Fall
With infusion of life giving water and sunlight's
    loving tender care
So that your fugacious life will be more than abundantly fair

Impatiently though, we must wait a little
For it is deep in Winter that you come to life
Come to life with full blooming delight
In splendid flowering colors that range from yellow, salmon,
pink, fuchsia and white, or maybe even a lovely combination
of these colors that come from nature's palette

When your flowers finally do bloom
Oooh what a wonderful eye treat they are for us
For your beautiful blossoms do befall
    the ugliness of Winter's gloom
With color-filled love and warmth for all
That will abundantly fill with life our family room

Though after your blooming stage
You I will not cage
Instead I will encourage you to branch out
By carefully pruning you
To delicately bring about
More beauty and life anew
So as for you to keep giving us so generously as you do
your life's blossoming gifts until Winter's through

Then when all is said and done, I must let you know
That when all your flower's are gone
    and after your blossom's fade
You need not fret or fear
That I will leave you
In the between of the year
When you trade in your flowering beauty
For your blossoms hibernation
So that you can bestow upon us your most glorious flowers
of your next season's most splendid offerings

Lovingly yours,
Nature's Child
